Chapter 4- Miss Burstner's Friend
In Chapter 4 K writes a letter to Miss Burstner, who he is clearly attracted to. He writes that he wants to meet and talk that Sunday, and asks her to give him a signal. Her signal is loud and clear. That Sunday when he is waiting in his room he notices ruckus in the hall way. Miss Burstner's friend Miss Montag is moving in to her apartment, and tells K that Miss Burstner does not want to speak with him. Seeing that Montag is occupied with the Captain, K knocks on Burstner's door, and when no one answers he basically walks right in. As he leaves the Captain and Montag give him a stern stare. The chapter ends as he closes his own door.

Burstner obviously did not reply to K. because just like at the beginning of the book, she is completely uninterested. I do not remember if earlier Kafka mentioned a close past with Miss Burstner, but he obviously wanted her if they did not. As we have established, the government in the book is corrupt so this could possibly their next move to break down K. emotionally.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that eventually the government could use this against K because the Captain of the Police Force saw K break into Miss Burstner's room, even after Montag said that she was not at all interested in him.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure what will happen next, but i have no doubt that Miss Burstner will reappear in the story and most likely in opposition to K.
